HELPFUL HOUSEHOLD TIPS

Cutting Boards ~ To remove the odor of garlic or onion from a cutting board, rub the area with lemon or lime juice.

Lamp shades ~ Either vacuum with upholstery attachment OR use a blow dryer.

Clutter ~ A surplus of "stuff" not only makes cleaning harder, it makes living harder.  There is a definite "stress-mess" connection.  Minimizing knick-knacks and reducing clutter helps to stay organized and makes cleaning easier.

Microwave ~ IF you don't clean up spills in the microwave right away, place a container of water in the microwave and bring it to a boil.  Remove the container and wipe out.

Water Spots ~ White Vinegar will remove the hard water spots from glass shower doors, windows, etc.  Spray it on and let it soak (the longer the better).   A wet fabric softener sheet may do the trick.  Spray Clean Shower after each use.  If none of these work, better call Blondie ~ she will use her "top secret" method!

Soap Scum ~  Using liquid soap on a cloth or scrubee will reduce soap scum build-up.  If you DO have soap scum, dampen a dryer sheet and the soap scum should come right off.

Rust Stains ~ Use Iron Out for tough rust and iron stains.  Available at Home Depot and most grocers.

Pet Hair ~ Wipe over the area with a damp rubber glove.

Candle Wax ~ On soft surfaces, place a paper bag over the wax and iron over it.   On hard surfaces, heat with a hair dryer and remove with paper towel.  Wash spot with combination of vinegar and water.

Chrome ~ Polish your chrome fixtures with baby oil.

Hair Spray Build-Up ~ Rubbing alcohol will remove a sticky hair spray build-up.

Collar Stains ~ Rub shampoo into shirt collars before washing.  Shampoo dissolves body oils.

Oven Spills ~ Sprinkle spills in the oven right away with salt.  Let the oven cool and wipe off!

Shower Curtains ~ Clean shower curtains by tossing them in the washing machine with a cup of white vinegar.

Baby Formula Stains ~ Use a little isopropyl alcohol on the stain and then your regular stain remover.

Dust on TV and Computer Screens ~ Wipe your screens with a dryer sheet after cleaning to keep dust from settling.  (They are anti-static).
